Vitamins for children in Burkina Faso

Almost 20 years ago, Katrin Rohde took the plunge and went to Burkina Faso to offer street boys a future. In 1995, she was given a garbage dump in Ouagadougou - a piece of land that she did not let discourage. With many helping hands and a great deal of perseverance, she transformed the dump into a habitable piece of land, on which the orphanage called AMPO still stands today. A total of 280 children live here and in other AMPO facilities, who are given a home and an education to give them a future. A healthy diet is an important basis for this.

Highly fluctuating weather conditions (floods in 2009, 2010, drought in 2011), an unfavorable inland location with high transport costs, a lack of extractable raw materials and inexpensive energy sources, and a very low level of education and productivity, as well as increasing corruption, are some of the numerous locational disadvantages that are affecting Burkina Faso's economic development and will continue to do so to a considerable extent in the foreseeable future. About 80% of the population lives in rural areas. Agriculture is the country's main source of income.
But many people are leaving the country in search of new opportunities. The capital of Burkina Faso continues to grow every year and can hardly accommodate all the rural refugees.
Those who suffer first are the children who find themselves in emergency situations and cannot be supported by a state social system.

The good deed

AMPO is primarily a contact point for children and women in need. Every year, the local staff receive many applications for support. Many can be helped and some can be taken into one of our homes. All children at AMPO receive an education and thus the basis for an independent life in adulthood. Milk and vitamins are important for the healthy development of the children.
